HTML5 Character Entities

In this tutorial you will learn how to use HTML entities to display special characters and symbols.

Character Entities:

HTML entities (also known as character entity references) enable you to add a wide range of characters to an HTML document. Characters ranging from icons, mathematical operators, geometric shapes, arrows, multilingual scripts, and much more, can be displayed in a web page by adding a small line of text.

Some characters are reserved in HTML. For example, you cannot use the greater than or less than signs within your text because the browser could mistake them for markup. If you want the browser to actually display these characters, you must insert character entities in the HTML source.

A character entity looks like this: &entity_name; or &#entity_number;To display a less than sign(<), you must write: &lt; or &#60;
